Trusha and her family are transforming a period property just outside Milton Keynes into their dream home, complete with a two-storey extension and Schüco aluminium windows and doors for a timeless, high-quality finish.

When Trusha and her family started looking for their forever home, they knew exactly what they didn’t want: a new build. “We’re drawn to period properties – we love the character – and most of Milton Keynes is new build, so it took us about five years to find the right place,” she explains. But when the perfect house came up just outside the city, complete with a south-facing garden and space to grow, they knew it was meant to be.
“It ticked all the boxes,” says Trusha. “We’ve got two daughters, plus my mum and in-laws who visit often, so we wanted somewhere we could futureproof – with space for everyone to be comfortable as the girls grow and our parents get older.”
The house already had good proportions, but Trusha and her husband are now in the middle of a two-storey extension to really make the most of the space.
We’re not knocking down walls for the sake of it. It’s more about repurposing rooms and creating spaces that work for how we live.

High-quality materials have been a priority from the start, as Trusha and her husband want to create a home with a great finish that will stand the test of time. That includes replacing all the windows and doors throughout the property with aluminium systems from Schüco, fabricated and installed by trusted Schüco partner Multitrades Windows & Doors.
“We’d had uPVC before and didn’t want that again, and we ruled out timber too,” explains Trusha.
When we started looking into aluminium, Schüco kept coming up. Their main showroom is only 10 minutes from us, so I went along to investigate, and we both went to Grand Designs Live to have a look too. We also visited a couple of other company’s showrooms, but Schüco stood out for the quality and range of options – and the service was seamless.
The couple worked with Multitrades to install black-framed Schüco windows to the front of the property, giving it a bold, contemporary twist while respecting its traditional charm. “I’ve always loved black windows. Our old house had a black front door but white leaded windows like everyone else’s. With this house, I wanted to bring it into the 21st century but still keep that character. The black windows look brilliant – everyone seems to love them so far.”
Next up is phase two: building the new extension with Schüco sliding doors to make the most of the garden views and natural light. “We’re currently trying to decide which sliding doors to choose. Schüco has a good range so we’re planning another trip to the showroom in the next few weeks to explore the different options and make a decision,” says Trusha.
For Trusha, this renovation is about more than bricks and mortar. “Home is where you want to enjoy life,” she says.
We’re creating a space that works for us as a family – somewhere warm and happy where we can grow into our next chapter.
